Lively Otranto, the most eastern town in Italy, is one of the loveliest places of the Salento province. In the beautiful historical centre of Otranto you can see its two renowned Cathedrals: the wonderful Norman Cathedral and the very small former Byzantine cathedral. The first is known especially for its majestic floor mosaic and for its very large five-aisle crypt, where 42 columns stand with their beautiful capitals, and the second for a Xth-century fresco depicting the Last Supper painted on a barrel vault.
Between the two cathedrals of Otranto we find a web of narrow and white lanes, all paved with bare stone, full of small shops where you can buy local artisanal and gastronomic products. The lanes of Otranto are surrounded by walls and by the Aragonese Castle. The crystal sea of Otranto, rich in dunes, sinuous recesses, caves and creeks, together with the presence of clubs, discos, campings and hotels, make this town a renowned holiday destination.
